The setting for this post is fitting.
I sit here at my computer, with a kleenex stuffed up my nose, seeking comfort from a hodgepodge of my favorite clothes (all of which happen to be different patterns and prints in varying shades of green). I have a horrendous cold.
After a summer of mental health issues, I was finally starting to feel up to the challenge of a daily routine - then my physical health took a plunge. “It's not fair!” I whined to the patient husband I am eternally grateful for.
As I throw a medicinal cocktail at this cold, along with generous doses of tea and honey and strawberry popsicles, I think back to the medicine and therapy used to treat my bipolar disorder this summer. Though the depression and exhaustion made everyday tasks excruciatingly difficult at times, I was acutely aware the situation could have been much worse without proper care and medication.
I am 32 years old and it is only within the past 3 years that I have known what it is like to be healthy. I've spent much of my adult life without insurance, fighting to gain access to the care that would ultimately save my life and allow me to be the creative and vibrant person I am today.
During the years insurance companies were allowed to deny me coverage, for a preexisting condition, my only access to health care was low-income clinics. One of the clinics I owe an enormous debt to is Planned Parenthood. They were there in my most vulnerable moments.
If you have enjoyed following my creative pursuits, please consider helping me show my gratitude by making a donation to Planned Parenthood this holiday season. Join me in paying it forward for others who find themselves in desperate situations in these uncertain times. A minimum donation is only $5.
As a thank you for your donation, I would like to offer a painting of your choice from THIS section in my shop.
How it works:
• Make a donation to Planned Parenthood HERE
• Take a screenshot of your donation Thank You email, or forward the email to me at firstname.lastname@example.org
• Include the title or link to the painting you’d like along with your physical address
