The ACA (Obamacare) Saved My Life

Dear family, friends and supportive strangers,

In March 2009 I had plans to jump in front of a NYC subway train.

I have bipolar disorder.

I could not afford medication or therapy.

The Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) changed that.

But now our government wants to take away my lifesaving care.

I'm terrified.

Give my story (and millions of others) a voice.

Call your congresspeople.

Join me in calling the people we pay to represent us in Congress this week. If you've benefitted from the Affordable Care Act, tell your congresspeople why; let them know access to affordable care matters. If the current health care law has negatively impacted you, tell your congresspeople why and how they can make it better.

Why a potentially intimidating phone call? It's the most powerful way to make your voice heard short of visiting congresspeople in person. It's not as bad as you might think, and in less than 30 seconds you'll feel like a superhero! Find your representative here and your senators here.

Bonus tips:

Call your congressperson's district office instead of their DC office. You'll be less likely to experience a long hold time and you'll have a better chance of speaking to someone who is an authentic local in your community.

Prepare a script with a personal touch. It can be difficult to know what to say, so write it down. This post includes a couple of sample scripts, but be sure to include any personal examples if you have them.
