The 100 Day Project: Week 5

I Consider Makeup

Looking through my masks this past week had me wondering if I should photograph myself in a more flattering manner. I rarely wear makeup and I prefer a low maintenance hair routine whereby I wash it and let it air dry. I also have a face that photographs very long and I usually make an attempt to angle my head in a more flattering pose.

But this series isn’t about beauty. It’s about the juxtaposition between presenting myself just as I am and the methods I use to disguise that true self.

It is my hope to grow in confidence as this series progresses. I truly believe that confidence is the most beautiful thing a woman can wear.

"You Don't Have to Be Pretty. You don't owe prettiness to anyone. Not to your boyfriend/spouse/partner, not to your co-workers, especially not to random men on the street. You don't owe it to your mother, you don't owe it to your children, you don't owe it to civilization in general. Prettiness is not a rent you pay for occupying a space marked 'female’.” - Erin McKean
